Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has stressed that maintaining continuous network operation remains central to the blockchain’s mission. He made these statements during Ethereum’s 10th anniversary in a livestream with Ethereum’s core contributors. Buterin emphasized that Ethereum’s purpose of advancing human progress and protecting digital autonomy requires absolute reliability.

The network has maintained perfect uptime throughout its decade-long operation and processed billions of transactions while implementing 16 major protocol upgrades. This operational consistency has enabled Ethereum to serve as a foundation for countless applications and innovations that weren’t initially envisioned by the team.

Maintaining network security, Buterin noted, requires constant vigilance. The infrastructure must be resilient against various attack vectors that can compromise operations or user capital, that will prevent attempts at disruption and allow legitimate users access.
