The Arbitrum Ecosystem Index (ARBI) has two primary descriptions. It is a decentralized, over-collateralized stablecoin on the blockchain, engineered to maintain a stable peg to the US Dollar. This stablecoin is created when users deposit approved collateral assets into a secure smart contract vault. Separately, ARBI is also referenced as a dynamic weighted index, similar to an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), which tracks and comprises a selection of top projects within the Arbitrum ecosystem. This dual nature addresses both stablecoin functionality and ecosystem exposure.
Staking ARBI involves placing ARBI stablecoins into the dedicated Stability Pool. This participation is crucial as it helps absorb debt from liquidated collateralized debt positions (CDPs), maintaining the protocol's health. In exchange for providing this essential stability, stakers receive rewards. These rewards typically consist of gains derived from liquidation events and also benefit from distributions of ARBI tokens. When depositing ARBI into the Stability Pool for staking, there is no fixed lockup period. Users retain the flexibility to withdraw their staked ARBI at any point, provided there is no active liquidation event occurring within the protocol. Regarding rewards, automatic compounding is not a feature. Stakers must manually claim any earned rewards and then, if they wish to increase their staked position and compound their earnings, they need to manually redeposit those claimed rewards back into the Stability Pool.
