StakeWise is a non-custodial liquid staking protocol primarily built for the Ethereum network. Its main goal is to make staking more accessible and efficient for users by removing the traditional requirement to lock up assets for long periods. Instead of having their funds become illiquid while earning rewards, users who stake through the platform receive tokenized representations of their assets that can be traded or used in other decentralized finance applications. The project has evolved through multiple versions. In its earlier iterations, it utilized a dual-token system where users received one token representing their initial deposit and another representing their accumulated rewards. This allowed for precise tracking and flexibility in managing staked positions. With the launch of StakeWise V3, the protocol introduced a more modular and decentralized architecture. This version features staking vaults, which allow any node operator to create their own staking pool. This shift encourages greater decentralization by giving users more choices regarding which operators they trust and what risk profiles they prefer. A key innovation in the latest version is the introduction of osETH, a liquid staking derivative designed to be over-collateralized. This structure helps protect users from potential slashing events, which are penalties the Ethereum network imposes on validators for misbehavior or downtime. By using an over-collateralized model, the protocol aims to provide a safer experience while maintaining high levels of liquidity. The native token of the project is SWISE, which functions as a governance and utility token. Holders of SWISE form the StakeWise DAO, which is responsible for making decisions about the future of the protocol. This includes voting on upgrades, adjusting fee structures, selecting or managing node operators, and directing the development of the ecosystem. The token also plays a role in incentivizing liquidity provision and is intended to be used in a security module where it can act as a form of insurance or protection against slashing risks. In summary, StakeWise provides a technical bridge between the security of the Ethereum network and the flexibility of the DeFi ecosystem. It allows individual and institutional participants to contribute to the security of the blockchain without sacrificing the ability to use their capital elsewhere.
