SHADOW is the liquid, tradable utility token of the Shadow Exchange ecosystem on the Sonic blockchain. In contrast, xSHADOW is a non-transferable, staked version of the token. Users who hold xSHADOW gain access to protocol governance and are eligible to earn 100% of the protocol’s generated fees. This dual-token system is designed to reward long-term participants and ecosystem supporters while maintaining a liquid market for active traders.

To convert xSHADOW back into liquid SHADOW tokens at a 1:1 ratio, users must undergo a 180-day vesting period. If a user chooses to exit their position earlier than this period, they face a 50% exit penalty. These penalized tokens are not burned; instead, they are redistributed to the remaining stakers in the ecosystem. This mechanism is designed to encourage long-term commitment and stabilize the protocol's liquidity.

x33 serves as the liquid-wrapped version of staked xSHADOW. It is designed to allow users to stay liquid while still participating in the overall growth of the Shadow Finance ecosystem. By utilizing x33, participants can bypass some of the rigid transfer restrictions associated with xSHADOW, enabling them to use their position within other DeFi applications or trade it without waiting for the full vesting duration.

Shadow Exchange utilizes a ve(3,3) model where xSHADOW holders can vote on liquidity gauges to determine which trading pairs receive the most emissions. External projects often provide 'bribes' or incentives to encourage users to vote for their specific liquidity pools. By participating in this governance process, xSHADOW holders can claim these incentives in addition to their share of the protocol’s trading fees.

Since Shadow Exchange is a primary DEX for the Sonic blockchain (the evolution of Fantom), the project provides dedicated pathways for users to migrate their old tokens and liquidity provider (LP) positions. Holders should monitor official channels for migration tools that ensure their assets are correctly moved to the new network to continue earning rewards and participating in the updated ecosystem.
