Hyperblocks are a specialized pruning mechanism used by Bismuth to keep the blockchain lightweight. By compressing old data, Hyperblocks prevent "blockchain bloat," a common issue where Layer 1 chains become too large and difficult for users to manage. This system ensures the network remains efficient and fast for the long term.
Bismuth employs a hybrid-like security model. Proof-of-Work miners secure the network and earn block rewards. Conversely, Hypernode operators provide stability and services like bridge and dApp hosting. To run a Hypernode, users need exactly 10,001 BIS as collateral, a static IP, and a VPS. In exchange for these services, Hypernode operators receive a portion of the block rewards.
Unlike platforms where every node executes every contract publicly, Bismuth uses "Private Contracts" or Smart Protocols. These are executed off-chain or by specific parties involved. This architecture makes them significantly faster, more private, and more scalable than traditional smart contract models, as it reduces the computational load on the main network.
wBIS stands for Wrapped Bismuth, which is a tokenized version of native BIS used on other blockchain networks. Bismuth features a built-in bridge that allows users to swap their native BIS for wBIS at a 1:1 ratio.
