Autonomi is a decentralized data and communications network that officially launched its mainnet and native token, ANT, in early 2025. This project was formerly known as the SAFE Network. The development company, MaidSafe, initiated a major rebranding in 2024–2025, changing the project's public-facing name to Autonomi. MaidSafe continues to play a vital role in supporting the ecosystem, working in conjunction with the Autonomi Foundation to drive the network's evolution and maintain its core principles of privacy and decentralization.

ANT is the essential utility and payment token for the Autonomi network. Its primary functions include: users paying ANT to upload and securely store data permanently on the decentralized network. Additionally, node operators, who contribute their hardware resources like storage and bandwidth to the network, are rewarded with ANT tokens as 'emissions' for their service. Furthermore, ANT is used to pay for various decentralized applications (dApps) and services that are built and deployed on the Autonomi platform, powering the entire ecosystem.

The migration from legacy MaidSafeCoin (MAID on Omni protocol) and eMAID (ERC-20) to the native ANT token is straightforward. The Autonomi Foundation launched a dedicated migration portal concurrently with the 2025 mainnet launch. Typically, users access this portal to burn their MAID or eMAID tokens. In exchange, they receive native ANT tokens at a 1:1 ratio. While the portal is generally accessible for an extended period, users are always advised to monitor official announcements from the Autonomi project through their community channels for any critical updates or specific windows.

Autonomi is specifically engineered to operate efficiently on 'everyday hardware,' making it accessible to a broad range of contributors. Community discussions frequently highlight these common requirements for running a node: a basic dual-core processor for the CPU, approximately 50MB to 100MB of RAM per node (with many users successfully running multiple nodes on a single machine), and at least 2GB of storage per node, often utilizing conventional HDDs or SSDs. The most crucial factor for optimal performance and reliable service is a stable, low-latency internet connection.

The Autonomi Network Token (ANT) has a fixed total and maximum supply, capped at 1.2 billion ANT. This supply is strategically distributed to support the network's growth and operations. A significant portion, approximately 450 million tokens, is allocated for the migration of legacy MAID holders. Node emissions account for 20% of the total supply, equating to 240 million tokens, which are gradually released to node operators over an estimated 12-year period. The remaining supply is held by the Autonomi Foundation for ecosystem development, team incentives, and long-term project sustainability, often subject to extensive vesting schedules that can extend up to 50 years for certain tranches.

As of early 2026, Autonomi Network Tokens (ANT) are actively traded and accessible on a variety of platforms. Users can find ANT listed on several leading centralized exchanges, providing convenient access for many traders. Additionally, ANT is available on various decentralized exchange platforms operating on the Arbitrum One network (an Ethereum Layer 2 solution). This dual availability on both centralized and decentralized venues ensures ample liquidity and diverse options for users seeking to acquire or trade ANT tokens within the broader crypto market.
