Open Campus (EDU) is a decentralized education protocol leveraging blockchain to empower educators and learners. It addresses issues in traditional education such as limited revenue for educators, lack of content control for parents, and credential fraud. The project aims to give control back to individuals, allowing teachers to monetize their content, students to own their credentials, and institutions to collaborate transparently within a decentralized and equitable learning ecosystem.

Open Campus operates on a decentralized Web3 model connecting educators, learners, publishers, and co-publishers. Key components include Publisher NFTs, which tokenize educational content for ownership, monetization, and revenue sharing. The EDU Chain is a dedicated Layer 3 blockchain for secure, transparent, low-cost educational activities and NFT issuance. Open Campus ID secures verifiable, on-chain learning records. The Open Campus DAO, governed by EDU token holders, facilitates decentralized decision-making for protocol upgrades and ecosystem evolution.

The EDU token is the native cryptocurrency of the Open Campus ecosystem, serving multiple utilities. Learners use EDU for payments to access educational content, while creators, co-publishers, and validators receive it as revenue or rewards. EDU holders participate in the Open Campus DAO for governance, proposing and voting on upgrades and fund allocations. It incentivizes contributions from creators and learners. Additionally, EDU functions as the native gas token for transactions on the EDU Chain and is used by content creators to mint their educational materials as Publisher NFTs.

Educators benefit from a global platform to develop, share, and monetize original educational content, ensuring fair compensation tied to content quality and popularity. They gain ownership of their teaching materials through Publisher NFTs. Learners access a wide array of educational content, unrestricted by geographical or institutional boundaries. They also acquire verifiable, on-chain credentials and can earn rewards through a Learn-to-Earn model for their active participation in the ecosystem.

EDU is a token, not a coin, because it does not have its own independent blockchain. It was initially launched on a leading cryptocurrency launchpad and currently resides on the BNB blockchain, created according to the BEP-20 standard. However, Open Campus is also building its own Layer 3 blockchain, the EDU Chain, to further enhance its decentralized educational ecosystem.

Open Campus addresses decentralization and scalability through its dedicated EDU Chain, an L3 blockchain built with Arbitrum Orbit. This ensures high scalability and performance for educational dApps, efficient NFT issuance, and reliable credential verification.
