Mexican Peso (MXN) is the official currency of Mexico. The current monetary system was adopted following a currency reform in 1993, implemented by the Mexican government to stabilize the economy and control inflation. Prior to this reform, Mexico experienced a prolonged period of high inflation and currency depreciation. As part of the reform, the “Nuevo Peso” (New Peso) was introduced to rebuild the monetary system and restore market confidence. The “Nuevo” designation was later dropped, reverting to Mexican Peso, while the currency code MXN has remained in use.
