Binance-Peg WETH (WETH) FAQ
Binance-Peg WETH is a BEP-20 token on the BNB Chain (formerly Binance Smart Chain) that is pegged 1:1 to the value of Ethereum. It is not "native" Ethereum but a "wrapped" version. While it holds the same market value, it exists on a completely different blockchain. You cannot use it for gas fees on the Ethereum network; instead, you use it to interact with decentralized finance protocols on the BNB Chain.
Most wallets do not automatically track every pegged token. To resolve this, you must manually "Import Token" within your wallet. Use the correct contract address for the BNB Chain: `0x2170ed0880ac9a755fd29b2688956bd959f933f8`. Ensure your wallet is connected to the BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) network when importing.
Transactions involving Binance-Peg WETH on the BNB Chain require BNB to pay for gas fees. Users often attempt to pay fees with WETH itself or with native ETH, which will cause the transaction to fail. Ensure your wallet holds a sufficient amount of BNB to cover these network transaction costs.
1. Centralized Exchange (Easiest): Send the Binance-Peg WETH to your LBank account, selecting the BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) deposit network. Once credited, you can withdraw it to your private wallet via the Ethereum (ERC-20) network.
2. Bridges: Utilize a cross-chain bridge (e.g., Stargate, Synapse, or official bridging partners) to transfer assets from the BNB Chain to the Ethereum Mainnet.
3. Swap & Bridge: Swap WETH for a stablecoin or BNB on a decentralized exchange (like PancakeSwap), then use a bridge to move that asset across networks.
Many exchanges do not support the BNB Chain (BEP-20) for Ethereum deposits. If you send a BEP-20 token to an address configured only for ERC-20 (Ethereum) deposits, the funds are often inaccessible within the receiving exchange's wallet. You must contact the receiving exchange’s support for potential recovery; some may charge a fee or be unable to assist if they don't support the network.
