EigenLayer serves as the foundational restaking protocol, while EigenCloud is the evolved, comprehensive platform. EigenCloud functions as a "verifiable cloud" that bundles various services—such as EigenDA for data availability, EigenVerify for dispute resolution, and EigenCompute for off-chain execution—into a unified toolkit for developers. The EIGEN token remains the core utility asset for the entire ecosystem, powering both the underlying protocol and the expanded platform services.

Intersubjective faults are malicious actions that are recognizable by human observers but cannot be proven by on-chain math or code alone, such as an oracle providing incorrect data. EigenCloud addresses these through "Intersubjective Forking." If a fault occurs, the community can recognize a new version of the EIGEN token where the attacker’s stake is slashed. This mechanism uses social consensus to punish bad actors, making EIGEN a "universal intersubjective work token."

The two methods provide a "dual-layer" security model. ETH restaking provides objective security, where slashing is handled automatically by smart contracts for provable errors. EIGEN staking provides intersubjective security, which relies on social consensus to identify and punish more complex faults. While ETH restaking is governed by code, EIGEN staking acts as a work token that secures the network against faults that code cannot yet detect.

Actively Validated Services, or AVSs, are third-party protocols like bridges, oracles, and sidechains that operate within the ecosystem. Instead of building their own expensive validator sets from scratch, these projects "rent" security from EigenCloud. By leveraging the existing trust and staked capital of the platform, AVSs can launch faster and more securely while providing rewards to the users who stake their assets to support them.

Following the initial distribution, EIGEN tokens were temporarily non-transferable, meaning they could be staked but not moved or sold. This phase was implemented by the team to ensure the stability of the intersubjective forking mechanism and social consensus protocols before the token was exposed to open market dynamics. This allowed the platform's unique security features to be fully established. Most EIGEN tokens have since become transferable for users on supported exchanges like LBank.

EigenDA is a high-throughput data availability layer specifically built for rollups. It is one of the primary services integrated into the EigenCloud platform. It allows decentralized applications and rollups to store and access transaction data efficiently and securely. By using the platform's shared security model, EigenDA provides a scalable solution for data integrity without the need for rollups to bootstrap their own independent security layers.
