Linear Finance, associated with the LINA token, was a decentralized ecosystem focused on the creation and trading of synthetic assets. These synthetic assets, referred to within the protocol as Liquids, were designed to track the value of various underlying assets such as traditional commodities, market indices, and other cryptocurrencies. The project aimed to provide users with exposure to these diverse markets without requiring them to own the physical or actual digital assets directly. Technologically, the project utilized a cross-chain compatible architecture. While initially built on the Ethereum network, it integrated with other blockchains like the Binance Smart Chain to improve transaction speed and reduce costs for its users. The ecosystem operated through several specialized applications: Linear Buildr for managing collateral and minting assets, Linear Exchange for trading, Linear Swap for moving assets between different blockchains, and Linear Vault for earning rewards. The LINA token served several primary functions within this ecosystem. It was the foundational collateral used by participants to mint the protocol's native stablecoin, which was then used to purchase synthetic assets. Additionally, it functioned as a governance token, allowing its holders to participate in the LinearDAO. Through this decentralized autonomous organization, users could propose and vote on technical changes, asset listings, and protocol parameters. However, in March 2025, the project announced it was officially shutting down its operations. The development team cited long-term financial challenges and an inability to maintain a sustainable business model as the primary reasons for the closure. The decision to wind down was further accelerated by the delisting of the LINA token from major exchange platforms, which significantly impacted the project's remaining operational resources. Following the shutdown announcement, the team provided instructions for users to close their positions and withdraw their remaining assets from the protocol's decentralized applications.
