What is WRAPPED SONGBIRD (WSGB)?

Wrapped Songbird (WSGB) is a utility token used on the Songbird network, which functions as the canary network for the Flare network. The Songbird network is designed as a fully functional blockchain where developers can test applications and protocols in a live environment before they are deployed on the main Flare network. The native token of the Songbird network is SGB. Because SGB is the native currency of the chain, it does not naturally follow the ERC-20 standard required by many smart contracts and decentralized applications. Wrapped Songbird was created to solve this compatibility issue. By wrapping SGB into WSGB, the asset becomes an ERC-20 token, allowing it to be used within decentralized finance protocols, NFT marketplaces, and other smart contract-based tools on the network. One of the most important roles for Wrapped Songbird is its involvement in the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO). The FTSO is a decentralized system that provides external data to the blockchain. Users who hold WSGB can delegate their tokens to signal providers who help maintain this data. This delegation process is a core part of the network's security and data integrity model. A unique feature of WSGB is its detachable voting functionality. This design allows users to utilize their tokens in multiple ways simultaneously. For example, a user can provide WSGB as collateral in a decentralized application or use it in a liquidity pool while still retaining the ability to use the same tokens for governance voting or FTSO delegation. This ensures that the utility of the token is not limited to a single purpose at any given time. The process of creating WSGB involves a simple wrapping mechanism where native SGB tokens are locked in a smart contract and an equivalent amount of WSGB is issued. Users can unwrap their tokens at any time to return them to the native SGB form. While SGB is required to pay for gas fees on the network, WSGB serves as the primary instrument for participating in the ecosystem's advanced Web3 features and governance decisions. In summary, Wrapped Songbird acts as a bridge that enables the native network asset to function effectively within the complex world of smart contracts and decentralized governance. Learn more

WRAPPED SONGBIRD (WSGB) FAQ

WSGB is an ERC-20 compliant, "wrapped" version of the native Songbird (SGB) token. While SGB serves as the network's gas token, smart contracts and the network's oracle system (FTSO) cannot directly interact with native SGB. WSGB overcomes this limitation, enabling participation in crucial decentralized features such as delegation to data providers, network governance, and various DeFi applications. It essentially unlocks the utility of your SGB within the smart contract ecosystem.
The conversion rate between SGB and WSGB is always 1:1. This means one SGB can always be wrapped into one WSGB, and vice-versa. The only cost involved in wrapping or unwrapping your tokens is a small network gas fee. This fee is essential to process the transaction on the blockchain but does not affect the 1:1 token ratio itself, ensuring a seamless and fair exchange.
If your delegation rewards are showing as zero, it's likely related to the network's transition from FTSO v1 to FTSO v2, which occurred in late 2024. Many users experienced this issue when using older dApps or outdated wallet applications. The common solution is to ensure your wallet app is updated to its latest version or to use the new Flare Portal interface to correctly claim your FTSO v2 rewards. This ensures your delegation is recognized and rewards are properly calculated and displayed.
Rewards on the Songbird network are typically calculated and distributed in "epochs," which occur approximately every 3.5 days. It's common for new delegations to take one full epoch before they become active and start accumulating rewards. This means you won't see immediate rewards right after delegating. Furthermore, it's crucial to note that unclaimed rewards have an expiry period. Any rewards not claimed within six months of their distribution will expire and be subsequently burned from the network.
Wallets like MetaMask often don't automatically detect WSGB. To see your tokens, you must manually "Import Token" within your wallet. Use the WSGB contract address: `0x02f0826ef6ad107cfc861152b32b52fd11bab9ed` while connected to the Songbird Network. If you encounter connection issues or RPC errors, verify your network settings: Network Name: Songbird, RPC URL: `https://songbird-api.flare.network/ext/bc/C/rpc`, Chain ID: 19. These steps ensure proper visibility and connectivity.
With the introduction of FAssets (like FXRP, FDOGE, FBTC) on Songbird, WSGB now plays a vital role as collateral. Users can provide their WSGB to "Collateral Pools" to help mint FAssets, earning additional rewards beyond standard FTSO delegation. However, it's important to understand that WSGB is native solely to the Songbird (Canary) network. It cannot be directly used on the Flare Mainnet. For participation on Flare, you would need Wrapped Flare (WFLR), and a bridge would be required to transfer assets between the two networks.
