What is TENX (TENX)?

TenX was a cryptocurrency payment platform that launched with the aim of making it easier for users to spend cryptocurrencies for everyday transactions. The project sought to bridge the gap between digital currencies and traditional payment systems. A core offering of TenX was its digital wallet and an associated physical debit card. This card allowed users to utilize cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dash at any merchant that accepted Visa or Mastercard. The system was designed to instantly convert the user's cryptocurrency into fiat currency at the point of sale. The platform's underlying technology included the Cryptographically-secure Off-chain Multi-asset Instant Transaction (COMIT) Network. This network was intended to facilitate cross-chain transactions without requiring a centralized intermediary. The TenX wallet was accessible through mobile applications for iOS and Android, as well as desktop software. Security measures implemented by TenX included decentralized security smart contracts, encryption, and two-factor authentication. The native cryptocurrency token for the TenX platform was PAY, which was an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token. TenX was co-founded by Toby Hoenisch, and Julian Hosp was also a co-founder and president who later stepped down in 2019. Despite its initial goals, TenX faced various challenges, including delays in the shipment of its cards. The project eventually ceased operations, with an announcement advising users to withdraw their funds by April 2021, citing financial difficulties and technological hurdles as contributing factors to its closure. TENX (TENX) FAQ

TenX (PAY) was a cryptocurrency payment platform launched in 2017, aiming to bridge digital assets with everyday spending. It enabled users to spend various cryptocurrencies in the real world via a debit card, such as those accepting widely recognized payment networks. The card facilitated instant conversion of crypto to fiat at the point of sale. The PAY token initially served as a utility and rewards token within this ecosystem, intended to incentivize usage and participation.
The PAY token was initially designed with dual utility. Holders were intended to receive a 0.5% reward, paid in Ether, based on the aggregate payment volume spent by all users with the TenX Card. Additionally, users spending with the TenX Card would receive 0.1% cashback, which was paid out in PAY tokens. This dual mechanism aimed to incentivize both holding and active use within the platform's payment network.
The TenX Card was a crucial component of the TenX platform, functioning as a physical debit card, often branded under major payment networks. It directly linked to a user's TenX digital wallet, allowing them to spend their stored cryptocurrencies at traditional merchants globally. At the point of sale, the card would automatically convert the user's selected cryptocurrency into the local fiat currency, enabling seamless transactions wherever the linked payment network was accepted.
COMIT, which stood for Cryptographically-secure Off-chain Multi-asset Instant Transaction network, was TenX's ambitious underlying payment system. It was designed as a cross-chain payment channel aiming to enable seamless, instant interactions and transactions between different blockchain networks, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, without requiring a different token. The vision was to create a highly scalable and interoperable payment infrastructure, though its mainnet development faced significant delays and remained largely experimental, not fully delivering on its initial promise.
TenX prioritized security by incorporating several multi-layered measures to safeguard user funds and data. These included secure encryption protocols, mandatory two-factor authentication (2FA) for user accounts, and regular security audits of their systems. Furthermore, the TenX mobile application provided users with direct control over their card security, allowing them to instantly lock or unlock their cards and set personalized spending limits to prevent unauthorized use.
TenX encountered substantial challenges that led to its decline. These included significant operational hurdles, financial difficulties, and intense competition within the rapidly evolving crypto payment space. The project faced criticism for failing to deliver on key promises, particularly regarding the widespread availability of its payment cards and the full implementation of its COMIT network. User trust further eroded due to the introduction of withdrawal and storage fees. A major external factor was the insolvency of Wirecard, a critical payment processor partner, which severely impacted TenX's card operations and overall viability.
