Newton (NTN) is a utility and staking coin within the Autonity Network. The Autonity Network is an EVM-based, public blockchain designed to provide a decentralized infrastructure for borderless markets. Its primary goal is to address foreign exchange risk in these markets by using innovative unit-of-account and stabilization mechanism designs, allowing for the creation of new marketplaces without the limitations of stablecoins that are pegged to fiat currencies. Within the Autonity Network, NTN functions as the staking token for its delegated Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. When NTN is staked, it can be converted into LNTN, which is an ERC20 token known as Liquid Newton. The network utilizes a dual-token model, where Auton (ATN) serves as the native utility token for transaction fees, and Newton (NTN) is used for staking and as collateral. Autonity employs a stabilization mechanism called Collateralized Debt Position (CDP), which allows users to borrow Auton (ATN) against their NTN or LNTN collateral. Technically, the Autonity Network operates on the Ethereum Virtual Machine and employs the Tendermint BFT consensus protocol, supporting a maximum of 100 validators. The project is currently in its early testnet stage. It is worth noting that there is another Web3 project also referred to as Newton Protocol, developed by Magic Labs and in collaboration with Polygon Labs, which focuses on chain unification and programmable compliance, and its token is generally referred to as NEWT.
