Mantis, identified as Bittensor Subnet 123, is a decentralized network designed to incentivize the production of high-frequency predictive signals for financial assets. Often described as a "decentralized signal machine," the project focuses on generating short-term forecasts. While it currently prioritizes BTC/USD data, the network is expanding its capabilities to include other time-series data such as foreign exchange (forex) and precious metals.

Unlike subnets that reward simple win/loss accuracy, Mantis utilizes Information Theory to evaluate participants. It employs a method called "salience scoring," which assesses the mathematical embeddings provided by miners. This system rewards miners based on the unique value their data adds to a collective ensemble model. This means a miner can earn high rewards for providing a signal that helps the network capture movements others missed, even if their individual accuracy is not the highest.

The project was founded by a developer known as Atlas (or @atlas_null). Atlas is a self-taught developer who gained early experience in the crypto space by mining Ethereum. He has since focused on building decentralized infrastructure, leading the development of Mantis to create professional-grade quantitative forecasting tools within the Bittensor network.

The SN123 token functions as the primary incentive mechanism for the Mantis subnet. It is utilized to reward miners and validators who contribute valuable signals to the network. Users can trade the token on decentralized exchanges within the Bittensor ecosystem, such as Subnet Tokens. Additionally, centralized exchanges like LBank provide support and information for the token, facilitating broader access to the subnet's economy.

Mining on Mantis typically requires GPU hardware to handle the inference models needed for generating data embeddings. Miners must be proficient in Python, the Bittensor SDK, and time-series forecasting. To ensure transparency and prevent cheating, Mantis uses time-locked logging. Miners submit encrypted predictions that are only decrypted and verified after the specific financial event has occurred. There are plans to move this verification layer to the Bitcoin blockchain to ensure an immutable record of performance.

The project aims to expand its asset coverage to include a wider range of forex pairs and precious metals, becoming a comprehensive decentralized feed for financial data.
