Unlike many other scaling technologies, Gluon was designed to be mathematically rigorous and non-custodial, ensuring that users always maintained exclusive control of their private keys and funds. The native token of the ecosystem is L2. This token was introduced as part of a migration from an earlier project token called LEV. In the active ecosystem, the L2 token served several primary functions. It acted as a governance asset, giving holders the ability to participate in decision-making processes for the network. It was also used for staking, where participants could lock their tokens to earn a share of the trading fees generated by the exchange. Additionally, the token was used to incentivize liquidity providers and bootstrap trading volume through various reward programs. The Leverj decentralized exchange officially retired its trading operations on April 13, 2024. The platform no longer supports active trading or the opening of new positions. The project's digital presence now primarily serves as a portal for users to claim outstanding balances or recover assets previously held within the Gluon network. While the exchange is no longer operational, its development of the Gluon sidechain remains a significant example of early Layer 2 infrastructure designed for complex financial applications on the blockchain.
