The Katana Network is a decentralized finance (DeFi)-focused Layer 2 blockchain designed to address liquidity fragmentation and provide sustainable yields within the crypto ecosystem. It unifies trading, lending, and perpetuals by integrating core DeFi applications like Sushi for spot trading, Morpho for lending, and Vertex for perpetual contracts, all sharing concentrated liquidity. Katana was incubated by Polygon Labs and GSR.
The native KAT token serves multiple functions within the Katana ecosystem. KAT holders can lock tokens for vKAT, granting voting power on protocol changes and upgrades, including directing KAT rewards to different liquidity pools. Users holding KAT may also receive discounts on platform fees. Token holders can earn passive income through staking, and KAT tokens are distributed as rewards for liquidity provision, encouraging participation and deep liquidity.

KAT has a total supply of 10 billion tokens. Approximately 15% of KAT tokens were airdropped to POL stakers on Ethereum. All KAT distributed at launch is locked for nine months, with transfers expected to open around February 2026.
The Katana mainnet launch was scheduled for Q2 2025, following a successful testnet phase, with early access opportunities for testnet participants and early investors. The private mainnet went live and was expected to open access in late June 2025. Some sources indicate the mainnet launched in May 2025 and opened to everyone in late June 2025.
