Boundless (ZKC) functions as a universal verifiable compute layer, also known as a proving layer. Its fundamental purpose is to enable any blockchain, from Ethereum to Solana and Bitcoin, to leverage zero-knowledge proofs. This technology allows complex computations and transaction verifications to be processed off-chain, significantly enhancing transaction speed and reducing costs. By offloading these heavy tasks, Boundless ensures that blockchains can scale efficiently while maintaining their robust security guarantees, acting as a crucial infrastructure for decentralized applications across various networks.

Boundless distinguishes itself from many other zero-knowledge (ZK) projects, such as specific ZK-rollups that operate as standalone blockchain networks. Instead of being its own chain, Boundless is designed as a universal, adaptable infrastructure. It serves as a versatile plug-in engine that various existing blockchains can integrate. This allows these chains to offload and verify their computational demands using Boundless’s zero-knowledge proving capabilities, effectively enhancing their scalability and efficiency without requiring them to migrate to a new network.

The ZKC token is integral to the Boundless ecosystem, serving multiple key utilities. Firstly, it functions as collateral; prover nodes are required to stake ZKC to ensure honest operation and commitment to delivering valid proofs. Secondly, ZKC enables staking rewards, allowing token holders to stake their assets and earn a share of the protocol's newly issued tokens. Thirdly, it grants governance rights, empowering ZKC holders to vote on critical decisions, including protocol upgrades and the adjustment of fee structures. Lastly, provers actively earn ZKC through "Proof of Verifiable Work" by generating useful zero-knowledge proofs.

The ZKC token began with a genesis supply of 1 billion ZKC. Importantly, it does not feature a fixed hard cap on its total supply. Instead, the Boundless protocol incorporates a dynamic, declining inflation model to manage token emissions over time. This model initiates with an annual inflation rate of 7% in its first year, gradually decreasing over subsequent years. The inflation rate is designed to stabilize at a sustainable 3% annually by the eighth year of the protocol's operation, balancing ecosystem growth with token value preservation.

Users can engage with Boundless and potentially earn rewards or participate in airdrops through several avenues. Eligibility for past airdrops often involved activities like participating in project testing phases, signing key community documents, or acting as an early mainnet beta prover, with status typically checked via the official Boundless dashboard using an EVM wallet. For ongoing and future opportunities, participation commonly includes running a prover node, which contributes computational power to the network, staking ZKC tokens, or actively completing various community-driven tasks on designated platforms to support the ecosystem's growth.

"Proof of Verifiable Work" (PoVW) is a unique consensus mechanism employed by Boundless, distinct from traditional Proof of Work systems like Bitcoin's. Instead of directing computing power towards solving arbitrary cryptographic puzzles, PoVW focuses on utilizing computational resources to generate genuinely useful zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs for various decentralized applications. Provers in the Boundless network dedicate their hardware to these specific, verifiable computations. They are incentivized and rewarded with ZKC tokens exclusively when they successfully deliver a valid and correctly generated proof, ensuring that computational effort directly translates into valuable network contributions.
