ASTROS is a governance token linked to Astroport, a decentralized exchange (DEX). It exists in two main versions: ASTROC for the original Terra Classic network and ASTRO for the Terra 2 network and other chains such as Neutron, Injective, and Sei. There is no direct bridge between ASTROC and ASTRO; each token governs its respective chain's Astroport deployment.
You can acquire ASTROS tokens through decentralized and, sometimes, centralized methods. For decentralized acquisition, bridge other tokens to a chain where Astroport operates (e.g., Neutron, Terra, Sei, Injective) using tools like Squid Router or IBC.fun, then swap them for ASTROS on app.astroport.fi. While ASTRO may not be directly available on all centralized exchanges, you can acquire native tokens like $LUNA, $NTRN, $SEI, or $INJ on our platform and then swap them for ASTROS on-chain.
While the precise mechanism can vary, staking ASTROS typically involves locking up your tokens. This action supports the network's operations or provides liquidity to the decentralized exchange. In return for their participation and commitment, stakers are compensated with rewards, which contribute to their Annual Percentage Yield (APY).
Security is a critical concern for staked assets. To minimize risks, users should always interact exclusively with the legitimate ASTROS protocol using its official contract addresses and approved front-end interfaces. It's crucial to never send ASTROS directly to a staking contract address; instead, always utilize the dedicated staking function provided by the dApp for secure participation.
The ASTROS token distribution is designed to give the community significant influence over Astroport. For ASTROC, 49% of the 1 billion supply was allocated for liquidity rewards over 69 years, 10% for the Astral Assembly, and the remainder for Astroport Builders with a 3-year lock-up. When ASTRO launched on Terra 2, its supply increased to 1.1 billion, with the additional 100 million tokens specifically designated for incentivizing liquidity on that network.
Tokenomics refers to the economic model of a cryptocurrency, detailing its design and how it influences behavior within the ecosystem. It encompasses factors like the total supply (whether fixed or inflationary), its utility (e.g., governance, payments, staking), the incentives structured for users and developers, and its overall distribution.
