In contrast, ASTRO is the current governance token for the primary Astroport protocol, which is now centered on the Neutron network. There is no direct bridge between these two tokens as they govern entirely separate protocol deployments. Consequently, ASTROC holders do not have governance rights or claims over the newer Astroport outposts on networks such as Neutron, Injective, or Sei.
ASTRO is the base liquid token used for trading and liquidity. By staking ASTRO, users receive xASTRO, a liquid token that automatically accrues a share of protocol trading fees. To participate in governance, users lock their xASTRO to create vxASTRO (Vote-Locked ASTRO). This non-transferable token grants the power to vote on where ASTRO emissions are directed, a mechanic central to the protocol's incentive structure.
The "Astro Wars" refer to the competition between different protocols and large stakeholders to accumulate vxASTRO. Because vxASTRO holders decide which liquidity pools receive the most ASTRO rewards, entities compete for this voting power to "buy" liquidity for their own tokens. The Tributes Marketplace allows projects to offer incentives, known as tributes or bribes, to vxASTRO holders in exchange for their governance votes. Projects seeking to increase their pool liquidity provide these tributes in various tokens. If a vxASTRO holder votes for that project's specific pool, they earn a pro-rata share of those rewards. This system allows projects to efficiently attract liquidity while providing vxASTRO holders with an additional revenue stream.
Passive Concentrated Liquidity (PCL) pools are a specialized AMM model designed to enhance capital efficiency. Similar to advanced concentrated liquidity models on other decentralized platforms, PCL pools algorithmically manage liquidity ranges so providers do not have to manually adjust them. This allows liquidity providers to benefit from optimized fee collection and reduced slippage for traders while maintaining a more passive experience compared to traditional concentrated liquidity management.
