Aave v3 OP (aOP) is an interest-bearing token on the Optimism blockchain representing OP tokens deposited into the Aave V3 protocol. When you deposit OP, you receive aOP tokens that reflect your share in the liquidity pool. The value of aOP increases over time as interest accrues, meaning your holdings grow in OP value without changing the token quantity. Essentially, aOP tracks your deposited OP plus earned yield, enabling users to earn passive income through lending within the Aave V3 ecosystem on Optimism.

aOP accrues interest automatically by increasing its value relative to the underlying OP token in your wallet. The amount of aOP you hold remains constant, but the OP value it represents grows over time thanks to interest generated from lending OP to borrowers within the protocol. Interest rates vary dynamically, driven by the supply and demand of OP in the Aave V3 liquidity pool on Optimism. This system allows holders to earn passive yield seamlessly without actively managing or claiming rewards.

Holding aOP tokens lets you earn passive interest on your deposited OP. Besides simply holding, you can transfer aOP to other addresses or use it as collateral to borrow other cryptocurrencies within the Aave ecosystem on Optimism. Since aOP continuously accrues interest, you receive an increased OP balance relative to your original deposit.
