What is LinkPool (LPL)?

LinkPool (LPL) is a Web3 project that operates as a leading service provider within the Chainlink ecosystem. Its primary goal is to lower the technical barrier for individuals and smart contract creators to participate in the Chainlink network. This includes simplifying the process of staking on Chainlink nodes and providing tools for smart contract developers to identify suitable Chainlink nodes for their data requirements. The LPL token serves as the native utility token of the LinkPool network. By staking LPL tokens in a staking contract, holders become entitled to receive a percentage of the fees generated by LinkPool's services. Staking LPL also provides users with a LinkPool allowance token (linkLPLA), which determines the amount of LINK a user can stake on the LinkPool platform once Chainlink staking becomes active. These LPLA tokens can also be lent to others, with borrowers paying a portion of their staking rewards to LPLA lenders. Initially, the LPL token did not conform to the ERC20 standard, but it was later redesigned to address limitations such as visibility and liquidity within the DeFi ecosystem. The LPL and LPLA tokens are ERC-677 tokens, compatible with ERC-20 wallets. LinkPool was founded by Chainlink community members Jonny Huxtable and Mat Beale. The project began with the aim of making Chainlink staking more accessible, recognizing the complexity of managing Chainlink oracle nodes. LinkPool has evolved to provide significant Web3 infrastructure, offering high-throughput, un-metered endpoints to clients and supporting over 150 blockchain networks. They operate high-value validators and have developed stake.link, a liquid staking initiative for the Chainlink network. LinkPool maintains its infrastructure in two Tier 4 data centers, ensuring reliability and performance. More recently, LinkPool has transitioned towards the broader Stake.Link platform with SDL tokens, focusing on liquid staking, governance, and comprehensive support for the Chainlink network. LinkPool (LPL) FAQ

LinkPool is primarily a Chainlink node service provider that aims to offer tools and services to benefit the Chainlink ecosystem. Its goal is to lower the barrier to entry for staking on Chainlink nodes and assist smart contract creators in identifying suitable Chainlink nodes. LPL tokens allow holders to stake within the LinkPool platform and receive a portion of the fees generated by the company's services.
By staking LPL tokens in a staking contract, users are entitled to receive a percentage of the fees collected from LinkPool's services. Staking LPL also provides users with a LinkPool allowance token (linkLPLA), which determines the amount of LINK they can stake on the LinkPool platform once Chainlink staking is live.
There is a total supply of 100 million LPL tokens, with 75 million initially owned by the LinkPool team. These team-owned tokens represent a primary source of revenue, as income from products and services is distributed among LPL stakers via an Ownership Contract.
Yes, LinkPool has undergone significant changes, including a redesign of both its token and platform. The project has transitioned from its initial LPL token to the broader Stake.Link platform, which utilizes SDL tokens. This shift aims to establish Stake.Link as a definitive protocol for Chainlink staking, focusing on liquid staking, governance, and Chainlink network support. The migration ratio from LPL to SDL is 1:0.5.
Initially, the LPL token did not conform to the ERC20 token standard, which is common in the Ethereum ecosystem, and had a biweekly airdrop mechanism. This led to issues such as a lack of visibility within the DeFi ecosystem, liquidity problems (with a feature-limited DEX as the only acquisition method), and difficulties with transparency and DeFi composability.
LPL tokens can be acquired or traded on various platforms. Historically, it was available on certain decentralized exchanges. Currently, it can be found on exchanges, providing opportunities for trading or earning yield through lending. Users should check the availability of LPL on their preferred centralized or decentralized exchange platforms, or through crypto wallets that support the token.
