Fluidity (FLY) is a Web3 project that describes itself as a blockchain incentive layer designed to reward users for actively using their cryptocurrencies. The core concept revolves around "Fluid Assets," which are 1-to-1 wrapped versions of existing cryptocurrencies, such as fUSDC for USDC. When users transact with these Fluid Assets on-chain, they become eligible for randomly distributed rewards. These rewards are generated from the cumulative yield of the underlying assets, which are deposited and lent out on money markets. Fluidity aims to address the issue of stagnant assets in decentralized finance (DeFi) by making every on-chain interaction with Fluid Assets yield-bearing. The FLY token is the native governance token of the Fluidity ecosystem. It serves multiple purposes, including staking, participation in governance decisions, and various utility mechanisms. Holders of FLY tokens can influence key protocol parameters, such as the size and frequency of payouts, sources of yield, and token distribution policies. Staking FLY can offer exposure to Superposition Layer-3, which is built on Arbitrum and powered by Fluidity's technology, and can boost incentives for future airdrop epochs and rewards for transacting and providing liquidity. A central mechanism in Fluidity is "Utility Mining," which contrasts with traditional liquidity mining by incentivizing active participation and transactions with Fluid Assets rather than just holding them. Token holders can direct these incentives and order flow through "Utility Gauges," effectively creating a marketplace where protocols can offer incentives to FLY holders to attract volume. Fluidity 2.0, a significant update, introduces the Fluidity DAO, further developing Utility Gauges, and upgrading Fluid Assets like fUSDC to be yield-bearing for both holding and transacting. This update aims to decentralize control over volume and allow FLY stakers to determine which protocols receive the highest incentives.
